This was our first attempt at a long distance train journey in India. If there is any hope of us continuing our travels, our son must not feel motion sick on our trains and he should be within manageable limits for a long time in a restricted space.
We had to catch the 11 pm Poorna express from the Pune station. After dinner, we gave Pranav half an Avomine and went to the station. The train was on time and thanks to the Avomine, he slept as soon as we entered our compartment and laid him on the couch.
Pranav was surprisingly easy to manage on the train. Maybe the Avomine kept him calm. The train reached Murudeshwar at 4:30 (about 15 mins behind schedule) and we took an auto-rickshaw to the resort. We had brought home cooked food for the journey and it lasted till dinner that night. We ordered curd rice and dal for Pranav for the night.
Today was an easy day as far as Pranav was concerned. We left him at the resort with his grand parents and headed to see Jog Falls. In the evening we walked down to the beach and the temple. Pranav's food was fruits, bread, cornflakes and curd rice.
Today was the hardest day on the road with Pranav. He woke up in the middle of the night for no good reason due to which he did not wake up till 7am. We were to depart for our trip at 7:30. We quickly fed him cornflakes and Avomine and started our road trip. The trip was 1 hr 15 mins long on winding roads. He did throw up once towards the end and fell asleep. Maybe we should waited a while before starting in the morning. After a halt of about 2 hrs and feeding Pranav idlis, we took another hr and a half taxi ride to Udupi. Pranav was perfectly fine on this leg. Maybe the Avomine took some time to kick in.
Today we left Pranav with his grand parents and went on a trip. So another easy day.
We had to take an hour and a half taxi ride (on a bumpy, but straight) road to Mangalore. We took a chance and did the trip without Avomine. We made sure that we did not feed him too much soy milk. Pranav did throw up a little at the end of the trip (after getting down from the taxi). After his nap, we walked to the sights for the day.
Today was the train journey back. We gave him Avomine which made him very drowsy and a bit irritable. Unlike the onward journey, the return train was at 12 noon. So it was a while before his night sleep. But the trip was quite event free. We had taken curd rice for the journey from a local contact. There was no food available on the train.
Reached Pune at 10am on schedule and took an auto home.
