Hotel Geblergasse, Vienna:
We stayed here for 3 nights in July 2026.
- Pros:
- 1) Location was good. We had metro and tram stations within 5 minutes walk. There are reasonable eating options nearby.
- 2) The tariff was cheap.
- 3) The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and the sizes were adequate.
- 4) The front desk was operational round the clock and the staff were courteous and spoke excellent English.
- 5) Room cleaning was done everyday.
- 6) The WIFI was free with great speed and connectivity.
- 7) The place is quiet at night and the sleep quality is good.
- 8) There is a covered parking right across the street.
- Cons:
- 1) This is a common complaint in most of our hotels in Austria. There is no air conditioning or fan in the room. It was difficult till things cooled down in the late evening/night.
- ARCOTEL Nike Linz:
We stayed here for one night in July 2026.
- Pros:
- 1) The room and bathrooms were very spacious and very clean.
- 2) The hotel had ample parking right in front. But it is paid parking.
- 3) The front desk was operational 24/7 and the staff spoke excellent English. The staff was courteous and helpful.
- 4) The place is very quiet at night and sleep quality was great.
- 5) We had a room with the city cum river view and the view was excellent.
- 6) The WIFI was free with excellent speed and connectivity.
- 7) The price was cheap.
- 8) The hotel is located on the banks of the Danube river and it is pleasant walking around the hotel area.
- 9) The lobby area is very spacious and the decor was nice.
- Cons:
- 1) There are few restaurants or shopping options nearby. The city centre was a good 20 minutes walk away.
- Motel One Salzburg-Sud: We stayed here for two nights in July 2026.
- Pros:
- 1) The rooms and bathrooms were quite clean and were of adequate size.
- 2) The hotel has ample underground parking. It is paid though.
- 3) The front desk is operational round the clock and the staff was quite courteous and helpful. The check-in/check-out process was smooth. The lobby is spacious and the decor is great.
- 4) There are limited eating options near the hotel. There is a big supermarket right in front.
- 5) The WIFI is free with great speed and connectivity.
- 6) The place is quiet at night with good sleep quality.
- Cons:
- 1) It is a bit far from the city centre. There is good bus connectivity to/from the hotel. The hotel provides you pass for free transportation to Salzburg centre.
- 2) Tariff is a bit on the higher side. But you would expect that in Salzburg.
- Pension Stoi budget guesthouse, Innsbruck:
We stayed here for one night in July 2026.
- Pros:
- 1) The location is great. It is a short walk to the city centre.
- 2) The front desk staff was courteous and helpful and spoke good English. The check-in/check-out processes were smooth and fast.
- 3) The parking is free - the only place with free parking on our Austrian trip. But there are only two spots available.
- 4) The WIFI was free with excellent speed and connectivity.
- 5) The place is quiet at night, and the sleep quality was great.
- 6) The room and bathroom were clean, and the room was quite big.
- Cons:
- 1) The immediate vicinity of the hotel looks a bit run down and there aren't very many eating options nearby.
- 2) The tariff is on the higher side.
- 3) The front desk is not operational 24/7.
- 4) The bathroom was very tiny, and the wash basin was outside the toilet in the bedroom.
- Ferienhaus Alpenrose, Vorfusch:
We stayed here for one night in July 2026.
- Pros:
- 1) It is located right at the start of the Grosglockner Alpine Road. Perfect place for an early morning start.
- 2) The host contacted us in advance and provided their phone number for smooth check-in. The process was easy and quick.
- 3) The room and bathrooms were spacious and very clean. The common areas of the hotel were also quite clean.
- 4) The view from our balcony was great.
- 5) The WIFI was free with excellent speed and connectivity.
- 6) The place is very quiet at night with excellent sleep quality.
- 7) The tariff was reasonable.
- Cons:
- 1) There aren't any eating options next to the hotel. There is a kitchen. Stock up on items to cook.
- NH Graz City:
We stayed here for one night in July 2026.
- Pros:
- The location is excellent. It is a short walk to the city centre and the clock tower.
- 2) There are plenty of eating options near the hotel.
- 3) The front desk is operational round the clock and the staff was very courteous and spoke excellent English. The check-in/check-out process was smooth.

- Mercure Wien Westbahnhof Hotel:
We stayed here for one night in July 2026.
- Pros:
- The location is great. It is a very short walk from the Westbanhof and easy to get to/from via tram/metro/train.
- 2) There are plenty of eating options next to the hotel.
- 3) The check-in/check-out process was smooth and the staff was helpful and courteous and spoke good English.
- 4) The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and clean.
- 5) The place is quiet at night and the sleep quality was great.
- 6) The tariff was cheap.
- 7) There is a good laundromat short walk away from the hotel.
- 8) The WIFI was free with great speed and connectivity.
- Cons:
- 1) This is a common complaint in most of our hotels in Austria. There is no air conditioning in the room, but they provided a fan.
We found the city public transportation excellent wherever we went. The transportation is expensive and often it is cheaper to buy a day pass for unlimited travel.
We hired a car for a week at the Klass Wagen. Despite many negative reviews, we found their service to be excellent. The pick-up and drop-off point is not at the airport, but they have an efficient taxi service to/from the airport. The pick-up/drop-off process was smooth. The car was in excellent condition. There were no hidden chargers. The staff was very courteous and helpful and they spoke very good English. If you buy their full insurance, they cover all your toll charges.
English is very widely spoken. We had absolutely no problem in communicating in English even in small and less visited towns.
It was quite easy to find vegetarian food in Austria. All the places we visited had a dedicated vegetarian/vegan choices. The dishes that you should try are: Vegan Wienerschneitzel at Velani in Vienna, Grostl in Tirol, Kaspressknodel, Kasespatzle and Knodels among the savory items; Apfelstrudel, Kaiserschmarrn, Mozart Balls, Sachertorte and Linzer Torte among the desserts.
- Vienna: The absolute must-sees/dos are the Schonbrunn Palace, Belvedere Complex, Hofburg Palace Complex, Kuntshistoriches Museum, Natural History Museum, St Stephen's Cathedral, St. Charles Church and Stadtpark. Among these, the first three needs prior booking.
- Salzburg: Must-sees are Hohensalzburg Fort, Mozart birthhouse, Residenz Palace, Cathedral, Mirabell Garden and Schloss Hellbrunn. The bext views of Salzburg are from the Museum of Modern Art Terrace.
- Innsbruck: Must-sees are the Golden Roof, Hofburg Palace, Hofkirche, Stadtturm, Triumphal Arch and Schloss Ambras. Hall in Tirol and Swarovski Crystal World are both easily reachable from Innsbruck and worth a visit.
- Graz: Must-sees are the Clock Tower and Schloss Eggenberg.
